Yaman ng Bayan. Ika-420 Taon ng Simbahan ng Silang 1595-2015
Yaman ng Bayan: Ika-420 Taon ng Simbahan ng Silang, 1595-2015 sa panunulat nina Teresita Palma Unabia, Phillip Lacson Medina at Mark Gregor Parin dela Cruz
Published to commemorate the 420 Years of Silang as a parish.
Established October 2013, the Silang Parish Council for Culture and Heritage was organized as a wake-up call after the tragic Bohol earthquake. The special group was tasked by the parish priest to gather pertinent data and document various heritage collection of the church. It held its first ever exhibit in the newly organizedmuseum, Museo de Silan on 2013 showcasing the artifacts and some of the remaining local church treasures of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Silang. Established in 1595 and with a stone church as early as 1645, Silang Church is now recognized as one, if not, the oldest church in Cavite.
This project releases a short publication documenting the church’s history and material culture. Entitled Yaman ng Bayan, Ang Simbahan ng Silang, the book contains a collection of articles and photographs covering the aspects of study from various sources in time for the celebration of its 420 years as a parish. Sections presented revolved on the word play of the town’s namesake: Silang, Pagsilang, Sumilang na Sining and Isinilang na Pananampalataya covering demographics, ecclesiastical history, arts, architecture and social anthropology.
